Missions 101
Missions 101 is an exciting class experience that puts into practice the service described in the Bible. In 2006-2007, our class has had two Christmas Food Box Project, Meal and Toy Drives, a Basketball Tournament and Meal for the Nashville Auto Diesel College, a Finance 101 course for the community, an appreciation dinner for CiviL (a local high school service group), and a congregational and community challenge to perform 750 Acts of Service. In assessing community needs and developing projects to serve those needs, we have met many wonderful community members, developed leadership and personal strengths of members in the church, and helped unite our congregation and the community we are called to serve.
In 2008, we have planned to accomplish 6 major projects: Parenting Classes, an Arts and Crafts Camp, a course entitled "Teen Issues", Nutrition Classes, a School Uniform and School Supply Drive, and our traditional Christmas Meal, Food Box, and Toy Project. These projects need support and help on all levels from members of our church and the East Nashville Community.
Missions 101 is driven by some of the essential truths of the Bible. Jesus claimed to be the Messiah not in word only but also in deed in John 7:18-23. In James 2:14-17, Christians are called to reveal Christ in the same, simple manner. Paul calls such service "pure religion" in James 1:27. The first church was identified by serving such "as anyone might have need" in Acts 2:43-47. Our faith, according to Matthew 7:7-12, calls us to know our community well enough to be able to meet immediate needs and reveal the Messiah in doing so. We see in Matthew 25:31-46 that not only is this service an important part of life, but it is also an essential element of salvation.
Missions 101 presented "The Parent'Hood"
During the month of April the Missions 101 program presented The Parent'Hood; four weeks of special discussion-based classes on topics including discipline/encouragement, education/parenting in school, relieving stress for you and your children and nutrition/activities and resources. Parents of all ages were invited to attend. Classes were divided into moms and dads.
